Message in a Bottle Kits

“MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE” is a scheme that can potentially save the life of anyone but especially someone who lives with a chronic medical or physical condition or is taking medication on a regular basis

The kit consists of a bottle, 2 labels with a green cross on them and a form.  One label should be placed inside the front door of the individual's home where it cannot be seen from the street but is clearly visible to anyone on entering the premises. The other label is placed on the door of the fridge.

The form should then be completed with personal details; details of any illnesses and medications; anyone who should be contacted in the event of an emergency; any person who may be relying on you – such as a grandchild who you pick up from school on certain days – any pets and, if possible, a photograph to aid identification.

The form is then placed in the bottle and the bottle placed in the fridge.  Most emergency service personnel know that, in the event of a call to someone's home, they should check the fridge for the bottle when they see the green cross label near the front door.

The Lions Club of Clacton on Sea has been involved in the Message in a Bottle Scheme for over six years and in the last four years have distributed almost 9,000 kits.  Currently kits can be collected free of charge from CVST at Imperial House; Tendring Home Improvement Agency; any branch of T.R.E.E., Clacton Area Crime Prevention Panel and Clacton Library amongst others.  Alternatively, they are available directly, from the Lions by ringing 0845 833 7367 or e-mailing miab@clactonlions.co.uk especially for bulk requests for clubs or surgeries etc..

The Lions are also looking for sponsors for this project and would be happy to hear from any organisations who would be prepared to make a contribution to continuing this much needed project in the Tendring area.

Message in a Bottle is supported in the Tendring Area by Tendring District Council
